REAL Photo Contest Winners
In 2019, Changing the Narrative sponsored the REAL (Realistic Examples of Aging in Life) Photo Contest.
In advertising and media, older adults are often portrayed as frail and bitter or as exaggeratedly active and positive. Depictions often include one half of a white, heterosexual couple, usually on vacation. Instead, we are looking for pictures that are REAL .
The contest encouraged submissions of pictures of older adults shown as vital members of intergenerational teams, successful entrepreneurs, engaged with social causes and other examples that defy ageist stereotypes.
